Background: Sago palm is an important agricultural starch-producing crop in Malaysia. The trunk of sago responsible for the starch to reach maturity harvesting after ten years. However, there are palms that fail develop thier 17 years being planted. This known as a stressed “non-trunking” palm, which reduces economic value palms. Objective: study was initiated compare differences metabolite expression between trunking and non-trunking secondly determine potential metabolite- makers related differential phenotypes Methods: Metabolites were extracted using various solvents analysed NMR spectroscopy GC-MS spectrometry. Data obtained subjected principal component analysis. Results: determined metabolites leaf extracts normal compared Metabolite groups differently expressed oils waxes, haloalkanes, sulfite esters, phosphonates, phosphoric acid, thiophene ester, terpenes tocopherols. analysis Jones & Kinghorn extraction method two sets markers, explaining nontrunking ethyl acetate methanol extract 89.55% comprising sulfurous ester compounds 87.04% acid cyclohexylmethyl hexyl respectively. Conclusion: Two markers These can potentially be used identifying plants.
